| Neutrality Fouls Out at Freightliner
The UAW and Freightliner agreed to give up a contract at a bus plant in North Carolina rather than risk a decision by the National Labor Relations Board that Neutrality Agreements are illegal!
A lawsuit said that the company was assisting the union in organizing -- an unfair labor practice, and in no way "neutral."
It also said that the UAW had agreed to limit wage demands and make other concessions if Freightliner would sign the neutrality agreement. This is essentially negotiating terms of employment with a union that didn't represent the workers affected yet -- a clear and cynical violation of workers' rights!
Rather than lose the lawsuit -- which would have invalidated the neutrality agreement and card check elections that occurred under it -- Freightliner and the UAW settled the case.
That's right -- the union would rather lose 1200 new members than risk having its precious Neutrality Agreement declared illegal!!!
